About the Artist
Robert Davidson (Haida and Tlingit descent) is a master carver, printmaker, painter and jeweller. Known for his impeccable craftsmanship, Davidson is committed to using cultural knowledge to celebrate the present as well as commemorate the past. In 2007, Davidson received the BC Achievement Award of Distinction for Lifetime Achievement. In addition, Davidson is a recipient of the National Aboriginal Achievement Award, the Order of British Columbia and the Order of Canada.
About the Artwork
Created by Robert Davidson, OC, OBC, the medallion captures both the spirit and purpose of BC Achievement’s five award programs. The design incorporates the concepts of universality and cultural excellence through the use of a two-dimensional figure representing the male and female, and the raven as a cultural hero.
