Program Update

The BC Achievement Foundation announced March 1, 2010 that the Time to Read Award: The BC Achievement Foundation Award for Early Literacy has been discontinued.

This award for an author and illustrator of a children's book suitable for a kindergarten student was generously funded by BC's Ministry of Education.

We congratulate the past recipients of the Awards:
2009 - Mélanie Watt (author and illustrator) for Chester
2008 - Bill Richardson (author) and Cynthia Nugent (illustrator) for The Aunts Come Marching
2007 - Linda Bailey (author) and Bill Slavin (illustrator) for Stanley's Party

The winning books have been distributed to kindergarten students and/or schools in BC, and are available at public libraries throughout British Columbia.

The BC Achievement Foundation gratefully acknowledges the expert jury members who have served during this three-year program, thoughtfully selecting award-winning books.

We appreciate, as well, the support of Canada's children's book publishers who submitted their books for consideration for this award.

It has been a privilege for the Foundation to have partnered with the Ministry in a program that encourages BC's kindergarten students and their families to enjoy outstanding Canadian children's books. We thank the Ministry for this initiative and its continuing role in enhancing literacy in BC.
