Kinichi ShigenoRichmond, BC
The work of Kinichi Shigeno is rich in detail and creatively merges his Japanese heritage with his impressions of life on Canada's west coast. Shigeno trained and apprenticed in Japan before immigrating to Canada in 1981 as a cereamic designer. His strength lies in the way he merges functionality with his evolving exploration of form and surface decoration. He has participated in over 55 exhibitions in 35 years including the prestigious 46th annual International Ceramic Art Exhibition in Florence, Italy.
Kinichi Shigeno's innovative work merges his Japanese heritage with his impressions of life on Canada's west coast. Classically trained in Japan, Kinichi moved to Canada over twenty five years ago and over that time he has developed an inimitable, unique style that places him in the top echelon of ceramic artists in the country. Whether it is the flocks of snow geese that swirl over his platters or the scattered leaves delicately rendered on a teapot, his work references familiar motifs yet through his vision, they become uniquely original. Kinichi's work has appeared in major exhibitions and collections throughout Canada and around the world.
